The Last of Us is ripe for a sequel. If it were any other developer, I'd say a follow-up to the critically acclaimed original is a no brainer. But Naughty Dog isn't like other developers. They won't whore out their IP for a shameless cash grab. If there's not good story to tell, they'll think of something else.
But the good news (depending on which side of the sequel belief you side with) is that the developer is at least brainstorming. Speaking to Eurogamer, creative director Neil Druckmann revealed that Naughty has "started brainstorming some stuff."
"To be honest, some of them are sequel ideas, and some of them are brand new IP — we've spent the last few weeks brainstorming new IP," he said. "So we have to get some good steps and see."
"It's kind of like how we approached Left Behind," he added. " Can we tell people a story that's really worth telling, and that's not repeating itself? And if we can't, where can we get inspired – what is something that's really going to challenge us, and push storytelling in this medium forward?"
Naughty Dog has already announced a new Uncharted game for PlayStation 4. But with the studio having split into two teams, it's a mystery as to what The Last of Us side is now working on. Perhaps a PS4 version of the game?
