The Last of Us Part II and Ghost of Tsushima launch this June & July

Good news for fans of PlayStation’s excellent first-party line-up. Sony has announced the new, revised launch dates for this year’s heavy hitter on the PlayStation 4. The Last of Us Part II is confirmed to launch June 19 and Ghost of Tsushima one month later, on July 17.

Just when gamers were slowly accepting that this year’s expected PlayStation 4 exclusives were going to be delayed into next year, Sony has today soothed the gaming hearts by unveiling that the wait is going to be substantially shorter than that.

With the Coronavirus pandemic having the entire world in its grips, many game developers had to adapt their workspaces accordingly. Most of them chose to shift to a remote work environment. But despite these measures, the development of games got an unexpected hit to their release dates. The result was that many games have been – and likely will be – delayed.

I want to personally congratulate and thank both the teams at Naughty Dog and Sucker Punch Productions on their achievements, as we know it’s not an easy feat to reach the finish line under these circumstances. One of these games that couldn’t meed its initial launch date was Naughty Dog’s highly anticipated sequel The Last of Us Part II. Not only would it not release in May but it was postponed indefinitely. A grim look which understandably led to many gamers assuming that Sony was going to push the game’s launch to align with the PlayStation 5.

Thankfully, the reality is very different. The Last of Us Part II will come out on June 19. Only a month after its first release date. A very brief delay in the end. But wait, there’s more! Sucker Punch’s samurai epic Ghost of Tsushima now also got a new release date. While it also is delayed, the new release date of July 17 is even shorter than The Last of Us delay.

Great news for PlayStation 4 owners who are looking forward to bridging the time in quarantine with quality gaming.
