The Last of Us Part II is just two weeks away and Sony has initiated their final marketing push. If you’re watching TV, you’ll likely begin seeing a new TV spot for the highly anticipated PS4 exclusive.
In the new commercial, Ellie is overwhelmed by infected as well as the new enemy faction: The Seraphites. As she fights to survive, a moody cover of True Faith sets the tone for the game’s dark story. Ellie takes cover at one point and it’s revealed she’s singing the song for her girlfriend, Dina.
While it remains unclear what exactly happens, a traumatic event near the start of The Last of Us Part II sets Ellie off on a quest for revenge. It seems like Naughty Dog is implying Dina is involved in some way shape or form but her fate remains a mystery at the moment. The game also recently got a deep dive State of Play showcasing the gameplay of Naughty Dog’s biggest game to date, showcasing Ellie’s brutality and unfiltered rage.
It’s been a long road to get to the release of The Last of Us Part II. The game was announced in 2016 and after very small glimpses over the years, the game was announced for a February 2020 release last fall. The game was delayed shortly after to May but then after coronavirus hit, it delayed the game indefinitely.
After the second delay, a massive series of leaks revealed major plot points from the game. Many believed this to be the fault of a disgruntled employee but it was later revealed to be caused by unaffiliated people who exploited a security flaw at Naughty Dog. After the spoilers flooded the internet, Sony and Naughty Dog announced the game would hit in June.
There are still portions of the game that remain totally unspoiled and Naughty Dog insists the game is meant to be experienced in its full context rather than bullet points and out of context clips.
It won’t be long until we find out what The Last of Us Part II holds in store for us. The game releases exclusively on PS4 on June 19th, reviews will go live on June 12th.
