The Last of Us Part II is the most completed major PS4 game

The Last of Us Part II has been out for about 3 months and a ton of people have played it. Millions of copies have been sold and a lot of those people have seen it through to the end. You may be thinking “Wait, people don’t finish the games they buy?” It varies from game to game but no, a large portion of people don’t finish their games.

The Last of Us Part II, surprisingly, has a very high completion rate on PS4. 58% of people have finished the game, which is roughly 20 – 30 hours long. The reason this may come as so surprising is because a lot of people online would have you believe the game is a failure. While you can definitely beat the game and dislike it, it clearly maintained enough people’s interest for dozens of hours.

You can view a list of the completion rates for The Last of Us Part II and other major PS4 titles courtesy of Forbes and Ungeek. This data was sourced by looking at the trophies rewarded for completing the following titles.

  • The Last of Us Part 2 – 58%
  • Final Fantasy VII Remake – 53.3%
  • God of War – 51.8%
  • Marvel’s Spider-Man – 50.7%
  • Uncharted: The Lost Legacy – 50.3%
  • Detroit: Become Human – 49%
  • Ghost of Tsushima – 38.2%
  • Horizon Zero Dawn – 34.5%
  • Days Gone – 34%
  • Bloodborne – 31.9%
  • Death Stranding – 29.3%
  • Red Dead Redemption II – 28.6%
  • The Witcher 3 – 26%

Even the most acclaimed games like Red Dead Redemption 2, Ghost of Tsushima, and The Witcher 3 had low completion numbers. Of course, these are big open world games with long stories and a lot of copies sold. Red Dead Redemption 2 has sold over 30 million copies across 3 platforms, so that’s still a lot of people who have beaten the game.

The Last of Us Part II has an advantage by being a mostly linear experience, allowing for a very streamlined experience. Most of the people who bought the game were likely there to experience the story, so it makes sense many of them wanted to complete it.

The Last of Us Part II is out now on PS4. You can read our review by clicking here where we gave it an 8.5/10.
