In the midst of all the Nintendo Switch hype, the Wii U has understandably gotten lost in the shuffle. If you weren't once of the lucky few to pre-order the upcoming console, or are waiting to see how things shake out, chances are that's not going to stop you from playing The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild on Wii U. It's worth mentioning then that if you are planning on picking up the physical version of the game on Wii U, know that you will have a mandatory data install of 3 GB before you can start playing the game. The install can either be on the console's hard drive or an external storage device.
Yeah, Breath of the Wild is going to be that big.
According to Nintendo of Japan's product page for the game, Breath of the Wild will be a 13 GB download if you plan to play the digital version on Wii U (13.4 GB on the Switch).
After years behind Nintendo's curtain, Breath of the Wild was finally revealed to launch alongside the Nintendo Switch, a move many fans around the world were expecting (hoping) would happen. The game was officially announced back at E3 2016 and simultaneously serves as the Switch's killer launch title and the last gasp of air for the dying Wii U.
