The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass joins the Wii U Virtual Console lineup

Today's Nintendo Download marks the second week in a row that Nintendo has added a DS title to the Wii U Virtual Console. Unusual… No complaints, though! Following last week's offering (Style Savvy) is the first of two mainline Zelda adventures made with the platform in mind.

Available this afternoon for $9.99, The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass is fashioned in the style of Wind Waker, with an emphasis on sea exploration guided by Touch Screen navigation. As the series' first touch control-based outing, the dungeon design takes some clever approaches in places and occasionally integrates microphone functionality for solving puzzles. It also introduces a new character by the name of Linebeck, a bumbling aide with his own charm.

Sadly, with multiplayer disabled, new players won't get to experience the thrilling Battle Mode, which makes excellent use of the dual-screen format with a steal-treasure-from-bodyguards concept.
