Most mainstream audiences associate Robin as Batman's main sidekick, but those who read the comics or play the games are aware of Nightwing. A much more grown up, bad ass version of Robin. The character of Dick Grayson (former Robin) helps Batman with a variety of things including doing small tasks while Batman takes out the big baddies like Joker. The character has never been in a live action film, but that may soon change.
Just a couple days after finally settling on a new director for The Batman, Warner Bros. has begun negotiations with Chris McKay (director of the recent animated film The Lego Batman Movie) to helm a live action Nightwing film with Bill Dubuque (The Accountant) penning the script. There's no release date or even an actor cast as Grayson, but it certainly makes us question if the character will show up in The Batman due to the timing.
In the DCEU, Robin was killed by The Joker and Batman has placed his suit in a display case in the batcave to serve as a reminder, as seen in Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice. If they follow the comics, the Robin that was killed was probably Jason Todd. It'll be interesting to see if Bruce Wayne/Batman's history has some sort of impact on the story of Nightwing via character interactions and what not.
The next DC movie will be Wonder Woman which releases on June 2nd with Justice League following on November 17th.
