Today Hinterland Studios, a group of industry veterans and the developer of first-person survival-sim The Long Dark, participated in a Reddit AMA about the game.
Given the team's credentials, technical director Alan Lawrance reflected on the surprisingly slow pace of the Kickstarter campaign, which has seven days left on the clock and is still shy of its modest $200,000 crowdfunding goal.
"I think I can speak for everyone at Hinterland when I say that the campaign has fallen short of our expectations," said Lawrance. "When I say that, I mean purely in terms of dollars raised. We're been thrilled with how enthusiastic the community has been, and with how generous our backers have been (we have quite a few backers at the $1,000 [level] and above!)."
Hinterland is optimistic about reaching its target in the next week, but Lawrance said if the team could start over, it would take a slightly different approach.
"If we could go back in time, I'm sure we would have gameplay footage from day one," he said. "We would have made our video shorter (it used to be 10 minutes long). We probably shouldn't have had so many $15 early bird slots."
Hinterland announced today in a Kickstarter update that it plans to have physical goods shipped out by mid-December. The Long Dark is due to launch in late 2014.
