The Lord of the Rings: Gollum gets first teaser trailer

Plus tons of gameplay info

Daedalic Entertainment has shared the first trailer for the long-anticipated The Lord of the Rings: Gollum. The video game adaptation of the huge fantasy franchise is slated to launch sometime next year for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox One. Watch the teaser trailer here!

Earlier this year we got the first look at the Lord of the Rings game that features the cute yet dangerous Gollum in the form of first gameplay screenshots. They were a nice presentation of what the game was going for in terms of tone and even gameplay.

Anyone who watched the LOTR movies already suspected that the titular Gollum wasn’t really fit to be an all-out action character. Indeed, The Lord of the Rings: Gollum is a stealth-action game with an expected focus on narrative.

Besides the teaser trailer, developer Daedalic also sat down to an exclusive interview with IGN where they detailed their project. Lead Game Designer Martin Wilkes says that their game can be compared to the Prince of Persia series, in that while there is action gameplay, parkour and stealth are going to just as even more important aspects of the experience.

While the CG teaser trailer is mostly setting the mood without showing gameplay, the early screenshots and details we learn today remind us the Styx games. These also featured a stealth-action adventure where the main character wasn’t really meant to be an action star.

Nonetheless, The Lord of the Rings: Gollum has a lot of expectations to fulfill. While the movies have revolutionized an entire genre and are bonafide classics, in the video game realm the franchise regularly threaded between the mediocre and surprisingly good.

What we learn from the developer today has us excited for the launch. Not only does the game feature a well-known character of the franchise but players can look forward to meeting other familiar faces throughout the adventure. Not only that but The Lord of the Rings: Gollum will also feature branching story paths where players can alter the course of the story to an extent.
