The New Nintendo 3DS is killing it in sales

The New Nintendo 3DS is off to a strong start in the west, as evidenced by Nintendo's sales chart revealed during the company's latest financial briefing.

The New Nintendo 3DS, Nintendo's new model for its extremely popular handheld system sold around 335,000 units during its launch week in North America and Europe. Around 170,000 units were shifted in the U.S., with 160,000 being sold in Europe. Adding these numbers to the 230,000 units sold during launch weekend in Japan last October, and Nintendo has to be pretty happy with how the New Nintendo 3DS is performing.

If you're not a numbers person, the chart — which compares the launch sales of the New Nintendo 3DS and the first two days of sales for the Nintendo 3DS XL — pretty much says it all.

Not even close, baby.

It's not just the New Nintendo 3DS killing it either. The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask 3D and Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate, two software titles that were released simultaneously with the New Nintendo 3DS in the U.S. and Europe, not only received rave review but also sold incredibly well in the West.

Majora's Mask 3D sold around 340,000 units in North America and 230,000 in Europe. Comparatively, A Link Between Worlds sold 180,000 and 150,000, respectively.

Nintendo hasn't finished compiling the exact sales data for Monster Hunter 4 in the U.S., but did reveal that around 110,000 units were sold in Europe.

Look, I don't think you need me to tell you how successful the 3DS has been for Nintendo. The sales prove that. As of December 31, 2014, Nintendo has shipped 50.41 million 3DS units worldwide.
