With Nintendo planning releasing the Switch next year, developers have to start thinking about which Nintendo platform to develop games for… the 3DS or the Switch. Pokemon developer, Game Freak, has been pretty adamant about developing for the 3DS over the last few years, but things might be changing with the switch.
The latest issue of Game Informer (via GameSpot) has revealed that the Pokemon developer is considering which platform will be the best venue for upcoming Pokemon games and it might just be the Switch.
"When it comes to the main series, thinking of Pokemon RPGs that we develop at Game Freak, we always really considered the timing of when we released them," Masuda said. "There has to be a certain point where we're able to release the games and get them into the hands of enough people, to make sure the audience is big enough. This year, with Pokemon Sun and Moon, obviously we're going to be starting to think about the next title, and then depending on what that timing is, I think that will determine which platform we would release it on."
Basically, if the Switch gets a big enough audience by the time Game Freak starts working on a new Pokemon, we might see it on the Switch! It would be the first Pokemon game to be housed on a home console in a while! Capcom is already considering developing for the Switch, so we may be seeing a switch-up in the future.
