The next Wii U indie is pop-up origami game Tengami

Another indie game is nesting on the Wii U, among titles like Little Inferno.

U.K.-based studio Nyamyam, led by two former Rare developers, unveiled its debut project Tengami last year in August. It's a puzzle-adventure designed after Japanese papercraft. At the time, Nyamyam announced it for iOS, PC, and Mac in 2013. Now the developer is expanding onto a new platform — one that's welcoming to indies even if Nintendo is slacking off with its own releases.

Nyamyam issued a statement that said (via Nintendo Life), "Last year, we asked on Twitter whether you would like to see Tengami on the Wii U. The response was so overwhelmingly positive that we began the process of bringing Tengami on the Wii U to life. It is with great pleasure that I can finally announce Nyamyam is now an authorized Nintendo developer. On top of that Wii U dev kits arrived this morning, and we are thrilled to be starting development soon."

Studio co-founder Jennifer Schneidereit told Nintendo Life, "It has actually been very easy to work with Nintendo. Everyone has been friendly and supportive" — especially of indies.

If you're worried about how compatible the game will be with the console, Schneidereit said, "The fact that Tengami was conceived with touch in mind makes it perfect fit for the Wii U GamePad. We think there are some unique features the Wii U has that we can take advantage of to make the game even better," although she didn't specify.

Tengami is headed to the Wii U eShop in early 2014. The other versions are due this summer.
