With the arrival of Splatoon 2 for the Nintendo Switch around the corner, many have wondered exactly how Nintendo plans to integrate communication and Voice Chat into the game. We've known since the presentation in January that the Switch's online connectivity will somehow require your phone in order to talk to other players, but the company has kept silent since. Only recently have they detailed any information regarding how Voice Chat will work, and even then only specifically with Splatoon 2.
A third party, Hori, has come up with an inelegant solution to this problem. They've created a headset which requires a hardwired connection to both the Nintendo Switch and your smartphone, as illustrated in the diagram above. Whilst this in no way signifies Nintendo's own future plans for Voice Chat will follow this same model, the headset is seemingly an available in-game item. This signifies a close working relationship between Hori and Nintendo, and therefore means this product wasn't created in a vacuum.
