At the Eurogamer Expo, Oddworld Inhabitants revealed the new name for the remake of Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee.
Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee New N' Tasty! plays mostly the same, but flip-screen scrolling is gone, and the developers added small camera movements to expose more of the environment. This is more noticeable the faster Abe moves.
"It gives you a better perspective of the graphics," said Just Add Water's Stewart Gilray, "so you can see more into that 3D world, and it also lets you see farther in front of you. So if you suddenly see a Slig patrolling and think, 'Oh, s**t,' you can hammer on the brakes, slow down a bit, and creep past him.
"In the original game, you looked through a screen flip and it was like, 'Ah!' You run away or you're dead. You had to make your decision before you went through the screen flip in the original game. But with this, because you can see farther in front of you, you can make that change in your gameplay there and then without having to go, 'I've died. I have to go back to the check point and re-do it.'"
The developers are keeping 80-90 percent of the original untouched, but they have improved play balance, incorporated a quick-save system, and tweaked puzzles so that they're "friendlier to gamers." The original full-motion videos (FMVs) no longer interrupt gameplay, but now render in real-time.
According to Gilray, putting HD in the game title would be misleading and inaccurate: "We're starting from nothing and rebuilding an entire game from scratch."
Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee New N' Tasty! releases for PlayStation 3, PS Vita, PC, and Xbox Live Arcade in fall of 2013.
