The Power Rangers film delay has been explained by Lionsgate

The end of April held some rough news for fans anticipating the Power Rangers film, it had been delayed to 2017. There was no true explanation as to why the film had been delayed, but it had been supposed that the delay had come from a lack of cast and script.

Lionsgate's top executives have stepped forward to comment on why the film had been delayed. They say it was due to the studio looking for "opportunistic dating" and because they could see Power Rangers becoming a series of movies.

“We’re very excited and with Dean’s [Israelite] vision; we felt very comfortable looking for opportunistic dating,” Lionsgate Motion Pictures Group Co-Chairman Rob Friedman explained. “We really believe that great movies deliver no matter what date they’re on.”

Lionsgate sees Power Rangers as a “significant series of movies,” Lionsgate executives said, with the company chief concluding: “We’re picking a date where we think we can win.”

Power Rangers is scheduled for release on January 13, 2017.
