The quest for Destiny: The Taken King’s Sleeper Simulant has begun

***Part two of the quest line, which actually rewards you with the Sleeper Simulant, is now available***

Today, Guardians woke up to quite the surprise — a quest that's believed to be the link to Destiny: The Taken King's most mysterious weapon, the Sleeper Simulant. As previously detailed by Bungie, obtaining the Sleeper Simulant, an Exotic fusion rifle that sits in the heavy weapon slot, requires players complete a series of quests. The first of those quests opened up today, but only if you've completed the first part — collect four fusion rifle relics (that drop randomly while playing Destiny: The Taken King) and return them to the Gunsmith (Banshee-44) in the Tower.

If you've done that, you should now see on the map a quest called "The First Firewall" now available on Earth. This is the start of the Sleeper Simulant quest.

Head to the quest location and complete it. You'll be rewarded with a quest item, the Curious Tranceiver, which will ask you to input four sequential passcodes.

According to the Destiny community, the codes are related to the order in which the Knights spawn in The First Firewall mission. But for the sake of simplicity, let's just get on with it. For each passcode, you'll be required to activate either the top or bottom. I'll refer to the top row as "1" and the bottom row as "2" — each successful code will unlock another Tranceiver (there are a total of four).

  • 1 2 1 1 2 2 2 1 2
  • 1 2 1 1 2 2 1 1
  • 1 2 2 2 1 2 2 2 1 1
  • 1 2 1 2 1 2 1 1

After you successfully input all four codes, you'll have a tranceiver breakthrough and will unlock another quest, "Shadow Call." This quest, which must be completed solo, takes you back up the Devil's Spire in the Cosmodrome (same location as Cayde's Stash mission).

This is a timed mission; you'll start at the broken bridge, and will have four minutes to ascend to the top. Be mindful of the Taken, but don't stop to fight.

Once at the top, you'll fight off three yellow Wizards. If the timer drops to 30 seconds, a Shadow of Oryx will spawn; kill it quickly.

Completing this quest will reward you with the "Ikelos Fusion Core," an Exotic quest item. The Fusion Core requires five components, each with a different challenge:

Heavy Power Coupling – Dismantle any legendary or higher heavy weapon.
Ionized Shell Harmonics – Complete the Archives mission on Venus on any difficulty.
WARSAT//MK19/TERRA/RSPN – Complete a 'Defend the Warsat' public event on Earth.
WARSAT//MK19/LUNA/RSPN – Complete a 'Defend the Warsat' public event on the Moon.
WARSAT//MK19/MARS/CHLM – Complete a 'Defend the Warsat' public event on Mars.

After completing these tasks, you'll be rewarded with the Reassembled Ikelos Fusion Core, which you must take to the Gunsmith.

Unfortunately, that's all there is right now. I'm assuming this is time-gated, and we'll get the next part in due time. At least this gives the rest of you who haven't yet collected the four fusion rifle relics a chance to catch up.
