The Recap – 08/23/13 ‘Elder Scrolls Online has subscripctions & microtransactions everywhere’

Welcome to another Recap episode where we go over the day's biggest headlines, making sure that you're caught up in all things video games.

Elder Scrolls Online has a cash shop to buy "kinda fun stuff"

On top of a $15/month subscription — which I'm still amazed publishers are going with, considering they all go free-to-play within a year — The Elder Scrolls Online will feature a cash shop. Lead developer for the game, Matt Firor, talked about it briefly in an interview with the Germain website ESOHUB.

The Elder Scrolls Online requires monthly subscription

Speaking to Gamestar, Zenimax president Matt Firor explained that the flat monthly fee will allow the studio to make "the game we set out to make." By not charging, Firor acknowledged they'd have to make "sacrifices."

Everybody's Gone to the Rapture is coming to PS4 only

Everybody's Gone to the Rapture, thechineseroom's intriguing game that "begins with the end of the world," is no longer coming to PC — meaning it's solely a PS4 exclusive. The game was shown off during Sony's Gamescom press conference, but long before thatEverybody's Gone to the Rapture was also due to release on PC. Sadly, it doesn't appear the game will ever make it over.

Xbox One's Ryse: Son of Rome has microtransactions

Basically, unlocking armor in the game's multiplayer is done so by purchasing Gold, Silver, or Bronze packs. These packs can be purchased through in-game currency; although, players can opt to spend real money to get these packs quicker. While not exactly pay-to-win, it sounds a lot like pay-to-get-what-you-want faster.

Will Titanfall have microtransactions?

With Ryse: Son of Romealready confirmed to have microtransactions, our attention now turns to Respawn'sTitanfall, another Xbox One console exclusive, and whether that too will have an in-game cash shop. After all, it is an EA published title.
