The Ring is one of those movies that I feel doesn't need another sequel, or a reboot. But it's that type of thinking that has me writing about video games and movies instead of being an executive at a film studio.
The Ring (2002) and The Ring 2 (2005), based on the Hideo Nakata's 1998 ghost story Ringu , is getting a new film whether I like it or not. Paramount has Spanish director F. Javier Gutierrez at the helm of the film — though it's unclear whether or not the new film is a reboot or a sequel to The Ring 2. What we do know is that the movie is titled Rings, and it will star Italian newcomer Matilda Lutz in the lead role.
It will, once again, star Samara and a deadly video tape, though Naomi Watts will not be in the film. Seriously though, if it involves a VHS tape, no one will die. Who owns a VCR anymore? Unless someone recorded it to DVD? Can an evil spirit transfer through media like that? Even a bigger question… who cares?!
