The Surge is getting a Western-themed Expansion “The Good, The Bad, And The Augmented”

Modifiable Challenge Rooms offering lots of new equipment items

Deck 13 has announced a new expansion for The Surge, their 2017 action-RPG. The new content is arriving on PC, PS4 and Xbox One in the near future, on October 2nd. We also got a taser trailer for the new expansion with the name “The Good, The Bad, And The Augmented”. In case you’re not up to par with your Italo-Western trivia, the expansion is putting a Wild West spin on The Surge. Check out the teaser!

Since the teaser is fairly short and isn’t giving away a lot, what can you expect from the upcoming new content? Right off the bat, this isn’t going to be a spin-off. It’s the same great combat from the original. The expansion will take place deep down in the CREO facility where players can explore an abandoned old Quality Assurance lab. So, the perfect setting to introduce experimental and new gadgets, weapons and enemies.

So, how does the Wild West fit into a tech lab that once pushed the limits of high-tech machinery? Well, here’s where the goofy part comes in. For some reason, Dr. Rischboter has set up deadly test chambers into the lab which are sporting a Wild West theme. We just have to go with it for now and once we get our hands on the expansion and unearth the mad scientists true motives, the wacky setting might make more sense.

For now, what we can gather as concrete news, is that these diabolical test chambers will become a valuable place to gather new resources and test your skills. It will be possible to modify these training rooms even, ramping up the difficulty but also the possible rewards, by combining up to 4 modifiers from a selection of 16 modifiers. Once you make it through the gauntlet, special Challengers will await you at the end of each stage.

Decked with 30 new and unique equipment pieces, you’ll want to modify and replay the test chamber multiple times and retrieve the new items off these Challengers for yourself.
