Atlus has obtained the North American publishing rights to The Testament of Sherlock Holmes.
Frogwares is developing the title for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. The Testament of Sherlock Holmes uses a fresh game engine to "provide players unprecedented depth and nuance in their examination and analysis of crime scenes, critical clues, and persons of interest."
The developer used motion capture technology on the characters to immerse players in the story — promised to be Holmes' "darkest hour yet." After he solved the case of a missing set of jewels, the rightful owner accused Sherlock of forgery. Without readily available evidence to clear his name, Holmes appears guilty, and even his closest colleagues are suspicious of his recent erratic behavior.
"We are excited to continue our successful licensing relationship with Focus Home Interactive," said Tim Pivnicny, vice president of sales and marketing at Atlus. "Sherlock Holmes is an internationally recognizable brand and one of the most iconic characters in literature, not to mention one of the most enduring, as evidenced by the successful films and television series."
The game is slated for a September release.
