It's been quiet on the Uncharted movie front and most speculations ended with the conclusion that a movie based on the Uncharted games would never see the light of day, but it seems like tides are turning and that the Uncharted movie is still alive.
Two years ago in July 2014 it was announced that the Uncharted movie was set for release in July 2016 but July 2016 is has officially ended and no Uncharted movie was released. Then a year ago the director left the project and the film ended up in development hell and since then not much has happened with the Uncharted movie besides the usual rumors that springs alive when Nolan North starts talking about things he's not involved with.
Now it seems like the Uncharted film is very much alive, they have managed to tie writer and director Joe Carnahan to the project. Carnahan will be writing the new version of the Uncharted script, so unfortunately he film is still early in production but it's alive.
For now, according to Variety, Carnahan will only be working on Uncharted as a writer and not a director since the production schedule collides with his other project, Bad Boys 3, so even though he want's to be the captain of the Uncharted production he can't, unless the film is pushed back even further.
"In a perfect world I would love to do both, but right now, I’m only on board to write the script"
Carnahan is an accomplished producer, writer, and director and has titles such as like A-Team, The Grey, and Smokin' Aces under his belt and he's excited to be working with both archeology and a big franchises like Uncharted.
"Archeology today is in itself an antiquity, but that world has always fascinated me. Especially when you go to a museum today and wonder how a piece got there to begin with,” he said. “Plus, the property itself is so popular that it was hard to turn down an opportunity to work on it."
The Uncharted film is still being written so no release date has been announced but the movie is alive. It also seems like Carnahan is working on the revived Wheelman movie but that one is still in pre-productions.
