Since the reveal of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, BB-8 has been at the forefront of the film's marketing. From the first teaser to the long line of toys, the spherical, orange and white droid has been seen everywhere. And while we've heard it "talk" with some of the characters on screen, no one has paid much attention to the ones responsible for bringing the adorable, new droid to life. That is until the premiere of The Force Awakens last night.
Following last night's screening, Hitfix reporter Drew Mcweeny was one of the few to stick around for the credits. And what he discovered was that prominant Hollywood actor Bill Hader was listed as one of the vocal consultants for BB-8.
Reaching out to him, Hader explained the work that went into bringing to life the voice of BB-8, one of The Force Awakens most underappreciated mysteries up until now.
"JJ f**king around with this sound effects app on his iPad that was attached to a talk box operated by me. It looked ridiculous but it made BB-8's voice. At first I tried doing a voice, but we all agreed it sounded too human," Hader explained.
Interestingly, Hader was one of two vocal consultants listed for BB-7, the other being Parks and Rec star Ben Schwartz, who you may know better as the ridiculous Jean-Ralphio. While Mcweeny didn't talk to Schwartz, the actor did take to Facebook and confirm his involvement in the film. "Quite possibly the hardest and coolest secret I've ever had to keep," he wrote.
