‘The Walking Dead Social Game’ launches on Facebook

AMC and RockYou have announced the launch of The Walking Dead Social Game, a new story-based Facebook game based on AMC's hit television series.

Blending strategy and survival-horror, The Walking Dead Social Game invites you into a zombie infested world where you will fight for your life, help friends, and encounter characters and settings seen in the show.

“The audience for AMC’s ‘The Walking Dead’ are passionate and deeply interested in the world of the show. Our social game allows them to explore and experience the zombie apocalypse for themselves, along with their friends,” said Mac McKean, AMC’s svp of digital media.

Currently in beta, The Walking Dead Social Game has you perform missions for NPC characters (like gathering ammunition from a city or collecting gasoline). On the mission you must active crouch behind cover, kill zombies, and gather the necessary items. The catch is that each action you perform costs stamina. While you can increase stats like stamina as you level up (by completing missions), once you run out you must wait for it to replenish or purchase more.

Actions are based on a clicking-type gameplay. You must click to where you move and stop the cursor in the right place to successfully behead a zombie. Leveling up allows you to customize your character to your liking.

Based on The Walking Dead television show, which returns with Seasons 3 on Sunday, October 14, it's a pretty decent game. Like any other typical Facebook game, the forceful nature of having to make micro transactions to continue to play is its biggest downfall. If you would like to try out the game, you can find it here.
