The Walking Dead is attempting to become the NCIS of zombie shows. The spinoff show is expected sometime in 2015, and the success of The Walking Dead warrants a spinoff. People will watch it.
The Nerdist had a new set of rumors that shed some light on the show's details. For instance, the spinoff will be a prequel instead of taking place at the same time as The Walking Dead, and will be set in L.A. during the time Rick was in a coma. The cast is mostly in place, as the spinoff follows a group of survivors — two small families and a woman who gets drawn into their group. Cliff Curtis (Training Day) plays a good-hearted 40-year-old man who has a rebellious teenage son; Kim Dickens (Gone Girl) plays a guidance counsellor and mother of two teenage kids, played by Frank Dillane and Alycia Debnam Carey.
The rumored title of the show is terrible, though. The working title is Cobalt, but The Nerdist is claiming that the show will be called Fear the Walking Dead.
Fear the Walking Dead. Let that sink in. That's as bad as Star Trek Into Darkness. The Nerdist is also saying that one of the lead characters from Cobalt will appear in a six-episode story arc in season 6 of The Walking Dead. So it'll be kind of a flash forward for the character from Cobalt. The problem is, we'll know one of the characters that will survive in Cobalt. Still, it would be cool to see the outbreak in its early stages — something we were deprived of in The Walking Dead.
I'm okay with crossover episodes; I just hope they have a good plan in place to get someone from the west coast to the east coast, considering how long it's taken Rick Grimes and his group to get from Georgia to, well, Georgia.
