The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct releases tomorrow and there is not a review in sight — a potentially troubling sign for the game's unusually quiet launch. You'd expect a publisher like Activision to go all-out for a title that holds the heavy weight of The Walking Dead, but perhaps the publisher is hoping the name itself will sell units. While we wait patiently for review copies to arrive, Activision has released a new launch trailer, giving us a brief look at what we can expect in terms of gameplay.
The trailer doesn't offer much that we didn't already know. In Survival Instinct you play as Daryl Dixon, alongside his overbearing brother Merle, on a gruesome journey across the Georgia countryside in an effort to reach the supposed safety of Atlanta. The first-person shooter also pits you with difficult decisions such has how to encounter a group of walkers, how you will treat fellow survivors, or what route you'll take on your journey. Earlier today, the supposed opening credits of the game were leaked, revealing potential locations you'll visit while playing.
Other than that, your guess as to the quality of The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct is as good as ours. The game certainly sounds like it could be decent, but the lack of lengthy gameplay footage and early reviews can be seen as warning signs for a game with an already shaky reputation. Still, the fact that Daryl and Merle are voiced by actual show actors Norman Reedus and Michael Rooker, respectively, does make a compelling case for the game. We're hoping to get our copy tomorrow so that we may be able to offer some sort of analysis.
