The Walking Dead: The Final Season to be finished by Skybound

Looks like the tragic closure of Telltale Games will at least end with the now-defunct studio’s premier IP closing in a way befitting of The Walking Dead game series. Robert Kirkman’s own company Skybound has swooped in to the rescue and will see through the completion of The Walking Dead: The Final Season.

You couldn’t write a more dramatic end to The Walking Dead game, if you wanted. Just like the zombies in the franchise, it looked like the game series would not receive an honorable death but would remain in limbo after only having released two episodes in their Final Season. To the surprise of everyone, Telltale Games announced the company’s closure this September. The bad news continued, with the layoff of their entire staff, leaving The Walking Dead: The Final Season incomplete in the middle of its episodic release.

New info was releasing every other day, with the last news being that several publishers showed their interest in finishing the Walking Dead game. It looks like negotiations went very fast, as today we already are presented with the conclusion.

Thank you to the fans for being so supportive of this series and vocal about wanting to see Clementine’s story continue! We’re going to do right by you (and also for ourselves, because WE want to play it too!). – Skybound Games

Skybound Games has made a deal with Telltale Games and will resume development of the remaining episodes for The Walking Dead: The Final Season. None other than Robert Kirkman’s entertainment company, the creator of The Walking Dead comics himself, has come to the rescue of the zombified game.

Announced during The Walking Dead panel at the New York Comic Con, Skybound is going to work with the original developers to finish The Final Season. There’s still some details to be ironed out but Skybound is hoping to release more info soon.
