The War Z removed from Steam

Hammerpoint Interactive's survival zombie game The War Z has been removed from Steam's new release list. The game was released on Monday this week, but came under fire after it was realized that several of the game's features listed on the Steam page description were not actually in the game.

In a thread on Reddit users highlighted a number of features that were listed as being in the game when they were really not, including rentable private servers, a skill system and a friends list. Hammerpoint originally amended the features list and apologized to those who "misread" it, but now it appears Valve has taken matters into their own hands — by removing the game completely.

Valve issued the following statement

From time to time a mistake can be made and one was made by prematurely issuing a copy of War Z for sale via Steam. We apologize for this and have temporary removed the sale offering of the title until we have time to work with the developer and have confidence in a new build. Those who purchase the game and wish to continue playing it via Steam may do so. Those who purchased the title via Steam and are unhappy with what they received may seek a refund by creating a ticket at our support site here.

Valve is also monitoring The War Z forums as several users have raised concerns about censorship or other posters being banned unfairly.

"We take these complaints seriously and are investigating the issue," Valve's Al Farnsworth told fans.

"If you have specific examples of what you feel was unfair or incorrect moderation on this forum, please post them in this thread (or on my profile) and we'll have a look," he explained. "There has been a lot of traffic in this forum – a new topic every minute for the last day and a half, with thousands of replies. All that makes moderation a very difficult task."

He did urge: "If you have concerns or criticisms about the game, you are free to post those in this forum. However, please keep your posts on-topic and about the game. There's no reason to personally insult other posters, the developers, or the moderators."

The blame appears to be directed at "Kewk", who is accused of banning Steam forum users and deleting threads completely. As always, we'll continue to keep you updated as the story unfolds.
