The Witcher 2 developer believes DLC, expansions should be free

2012 has already handed us a slew of expansions for popular games. From “Dawnguard” for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim to Battlefield 3’s “Close Quarters,” there hasn’t been a shortage of content, only a shortage of Microsoft Points. Projekt Red, the folks behind the popular Witcher series, which made its way to Xbox 360 this past year, though, believes all these expansions packs should be free, an idea they do not only preach but practice as well.

Speaking during an upcoming VG247 interview, CDPR game director Konrad Tomaszkiewicz voiced his opinion on one of today’s hottest issues:

Back when retail games were dominant, we had expansion packs,” said Tomaszkiewicz. “These were really large chunks of content, which were worth their price. If today’s DLCs offered the same amount of content, they would be worth paying for, but in most cases players think they are overcharged for what they receive. That’s why we offer expansions to our game for free.”

Konrad also went on to explain why they’ve offered so much of their content for free, stating, “[Free DLC] is also a way of saying 'thank you' to the people who decided to buy our game instead of copying it from an unauthorized source.” See kids, not stealing a game via piracy can be beneficial for you in the long run.

Do you agree with Tomaszkiewicz or do you believe a full fledged expansion deserves to be priced respectively? Let us know by commenting below.
