The Witcher 3 ‘Blood and Wine’ DLC marks “the end” of the series for a while (maybe forever), says dev

They have said it once and they will say it again, The Witcher 3's latest expansion is the last bit of content for The Witcher that CD Projekt Red will produce before moving on to pursue other endeavors. There are no plans to remaster the first two Witcher games – the series is getting put on the back-burner for a while and it might even be for good.

Speaking with Eurogamer, CD Projekt co-founder Marcin Iwinski made it very clear that Blood and Wine marks the end of Geralt's adventures:

"As we said before, never say never [but] right now it's really Blood and Wine. This is the end. Blood and Wine is [the] closing and there won't be any Witcher any time soon – if there ever will be one. And I would really like to see how people feel about it, if they will enjoy it."

While CD Projekt Red will be moving on to focus on Cyberpunk 2077, the question remained, would The Witcher 4 be released after Cyberpunk?

"We are a publicly traded company so we cannot comment on that but I can assure you we are not working on another Witcher."

This statement certainly casts any doubt on The Witcher 4, but with CD Projekt Red's development methods, they more than likely have an idea of what their next two games will be. We know that Cyberpunk 2077 will release sometime after 2017, but another 'mysterious' game is planned between 2017 and 2021. Of course, this other game could be a follow-up to Cyberpunk… but we will have to wait and see.

The Witcher 3's 'Blood and Wine' DLC will bring over 30 hours of gameplay on May 31st.
