After a few teasers, developer CD Projekt RED has revealed that Ciri will be the second playable character in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.
Described as "the ashen-haired girl from an ancient prophecy," Ciri is a descendant in a long-lost Elven-blood lineage and star of the recently released Elder Blood trailer.
Capable of both healing and destroying the world she inhabits, Ciri is pursued by the Wild Hunt, a cavalcade of riders capable of destruction, as well as the Nilfgaard Empire.
Though Ciri is a major character, she is not designed to replace Geralt who CD Projekt RED reassured is still the main character. "The game is still about him, his story and how you, as the player, choose to face the choices and encounters in front of you," the developer said. Rather, Ciri was introduced as a playable character because CD Projekt RED felt that telling parts of her story from her perspective would "greatly benefit" the overall experience. Adding Ciri, the developer said, "unlocks quite a few narrative possibilities for the team."
Though specific details are vague at the moment, Ciri boasts exceptional swordfighting abilities, as well as several unique skills that will gradually unlock as you play. She's fast and agile, and has the ability to Blink. Leaving us with a bit of a cliffhanger, CD Projekt RED teased some sort of "mythical power" that's resting dormant in her.
After a second delay, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is now due out for PS4, Xbox One, and PC on May 19, 2015.
