The Witcher 3’s addictive standalone GWENT card game is now on Steam for free

CD Projekt RED has announced the nice news that the spin-off card game from the hugely popular The Witcher 3 is now available on Steam. Previously, GWENT: The Witcher Card Game could only be played via the company’s own PC gaming client GOG and on iOS & Android mobile devices.

To add to the good news of the game’s Steam release, GWENT is a free-to-play game and remains one on Steam as well. So, there’s really no hurdles to not give the surprisingly solid card battler at least a try. And even if you’re an existing player on either mobile or GOG, the Steam release features cross-play across all platforms. This means you’ll immediately get access to a large pre-existing community.

Join in The Witcher universe’s favorite card game — available for free! Blending the CCG and TCG genres, GWENT sees you clash in fast-paced online PvP duels that combine bluffing, on-the-fly decision making and careful deck construction. Collect and command Geralt, Yennefer and other iconic Witcher-world heroes. Grow your collectible arsenal with spells and special abilities that dramatically turn the tide of battle. Use deception and clever tricks in your strategy to win the fight in classic, seasonal and Arena modes. Play GWENT: The Witcher Card Game for free now!

Rounding all this up is the synchronization feature that lets existing players carry over all their experience, game deck, etc. to the Steam version. So, if for any reason you’d prefer gaming GWENT via Steam, CD Projekt RED has done all the work for it to be a totally hassle-free transition.

In addition to all of that, if you own the other Witcher card game spin-off, Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales, on Steam, you’ll be receiving rewards to use in GWENT by making progress in Thronebraker. Ain’t that neat! These are the rewards:

  • 2 player avatars
  • 2 player titles
  • 5 premium kegs
  • 20 brand new cards for Multiplayer GWENT
