The Reapers Arrive First in Mass Effect 2’s Arrival DLC

A patch to the PS3 version of Mass Effect 2 has added a few trophies that confirm more upcoming DLC for the game. The name of the DLC is “Arrival,” suggesting, as Bioware has stated previously, that this will be the mission that bridges the gap between Mass Effect 2 and Mass Effect 3. Of course, with a name like “Arrival,” we assume the DLC is referring to the coming of the Reapers, the galaxy ending threat shown headed our way at the end of Mass Effect 2 and seriously ruining our day in the Mass Effect 3 announcement trailer.

Here are the three trophies that are firing up forums and blogs with speculation:

Ultimate Sacrifice
Complete the Arrival DLC.

Last Stand
Complete all 5 waves in the battle for Object Roh.

Covert Action
Rescue Dr. Amanda Kenson without attracting hostile attention.

“Ultimate Sacrifice” is certainly suspicious, causing me to wonder if there’s a difficult decision to be made that will leave someone dead. Personally, I have plenty of crew members to spare, but not everyone’s suicide mission went as well.

The mention of Dr. Amanda Kenson is another curiosity because her name has popped up before, as revealed in this old Cereberus Network update:

“Historians and astronomers alike are abuzz tonight over a new paper published by Dr. Amanda Kenson of the University of Arcturus … ‘Only a small fraction of the mass effect relays date back 50,000 years,’ she writes. ‘The majority are far older, indicating they were created by a species predating even the Protheans. … What civilization could have spanned the galaxy for not thousands, but millions of years? If this were the case, we should have found mountains of evidence of their passing. Where is this species now?’”

If I had to guess, I’m betting at our front doorstep.

Video games became an amazing, artful, interactive story-driven medium for me right around when I played Panzer Dragoon Saga on Sega Saturn. Ever since then, I've wanted to be a part of this industry. Somewhere along the line I, possibly foolishly, decided I'd rather write about them than actually make them. So here I am.
