While we may not being seeing a sequel to the Ghostbusters reboot from Director Paul Feig, we will probably be seeing other Ghostbusters movies in the future. The original director of Ghostbusters, Ivan Reitman, was recently featured on the the Mr. Wavy podcast (via Collider) where he was recorded saying that there was more Ghostbusters movies in the works.
“There’s going to be many other Ghostbusters movies, they’re just in development right now.”
There has been plenty of chattering on the Ghosbusters front ever since the reboot was announced.
When the female-driven reboot was revealed there were rumors of another reboot, with an entirely male cast. The film was rumored to star Channing Tatum and Chris Pratt, with Captain America: Civil War directors Joe and Anthony Russo producing and possibly directing. This rumor, like most other rumors, was denied. Other rumors had Ghostbusters 3 being a thing, but nothing really confirmed – just plenty of denial on the film existing.
On the flip side, with the reboot garnering around $230 million at the worldwide box office and Sony expecting the film to be a bigger hit than it was, it's no surprise that there won't be a sequel. In fact, it was suggested that the movie didn't even break even after production and marketing costs.
Either way, Ghostbusters isn't ready to die yet – especially with the animated film in the works.
