The Riddick franchise is a true example of the perfect action movie. Brutal violence, a taciturn protagonist, weird and witchy mythos and just some general badassery. They don’t make any pretense towards serious social commentary and they really don’t need it. It’s what makes them so enjoyable. You can click off your brain for a while and have fun with what’s presented.
So Vin Diesel letting it slip that not only is a follow up film sequel to the saga in the works but that there is also a TV show based on the franchise’s premise being developed is all kinds of exciting. Especially in a sea of prestige Serious Business television, having something that is just fun and crazy might be a breath of fresh air.
Merc City is set to follow the mercenaries and bounty hunters previously encountered in the Riddick universe in an episodic format and Chronicles of Riddick: Furia will be the cinematic expansion to the lore that’s already been laid down in the prior movies.
No word yet on the when or where or what channel any of this is going to happen, but Diesel has always been pretty generous with sharing communication via his social media accounts.
