Things are heating up with the new Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials trailer

Last year, I went into The Maze Runner with absolutely no expectations. I had not really paid any attention to the trailers, and I hadn't even heard of the series of young-adult books the post-apocalyptic film was based after. Needless to say, I came away impressed. What can I say, I'm a sucker for these dystopian science fiction stories.

Seeing as how we're well beyond the spoiler period, The Maze Runner left off with a huge cliffhanger that of course set up the film for a sequel — Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials. Again, I have no clue what this one will be about as I've not read the books; but, like all sequels, it looks much bigger and more intense than the first film. If you're clueless as to what the sequel is about, as I am, here's the brief overview:

"In this next chapter of the epic “Maze Runner” saga, Thomas (Dylan O’Brien) and his fellow Gladers face their greatest challenge yet: searching for clues about the mysterious and powerful organization known as WCKD. Their journey takes them to the Scorch, a desolate landscape filled with unimaginable obstacles. Teaming up with resistance fighters, the Gladers take on WCKD’s vastly superior forces and uncover its shocking plans for them all."

Fox released the first official trailer for Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials, and… Whoa, wait, is that Littlefinger!? That's totally Littlefinger from Game of Thrones!…

Anyway, while fans of the book series don't seem too pleased with the film's direction, I — being the ignorant moviegoer that I am — enjoyed it. It looks entertaining. Is it a shot for shot recreation of the book? Probably not, but that's okay. Sometimes a film can be based after a book and not completely mimic every little details. They both can stand on their own as individual representations of the same story.

Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials is set to hit theaters on September 18, 2015.
