This supposed leaked email detailing the future of Spider-Man, Sony and Marvel will make your head hurt

It has to be fake... it has to be...

I try not to post things I found on Reddit frequently — I don't write for Kotaku, after all. But seeing as how I write mainly movie news now, I thought that this post to /r/movies was particularly interesting. Interesting might be a poor choice of words… mind boggling is more like it.

The post is titled "New set of Sony Email leaks reveals details of the Spidey Summit. Shared deal between the studios now confirmed." I believe it's fake. It has to be fake, because the ideas and thought process taking place are so idiotic.

First off, Sony thinks that the plans laid out in the email will make them 12 billion dollars, and I say that in a Doctor Evil voice. In selling the rights back to Marvel, they value Spider-Man at $5 billion, even though they have mismanaged the brand for quite some time. Supposedly, Marvel wanted to buy it back for $1.5B, but they settled on $2B. I can actually believe that part of the email. It's the outline of movies that has me in disbelief. Here's the list of movies proposed, without all the fluff in-between, including the stuff where Sony wants Thor and Daredevil properties in exchange for shared universe stuff:

  • Maybe have The Amazing Spider-Man 3 be animated and voiced by Andrew Garfield and cast
  • 2016: The Amazing Spider-Man: Sinister Six Part 1
  • Early 2017: The Amazing Spider-Man: Sinister Six Part 2
  • Late 2017: Emma Stone as Carnage
  • Leads into 2018: Venom (with Channing Tatum no longer in the running)
  • 2018: The Amazing Spider-Man 4 Part 1
  • 2019 The Amazing Spider-Man 4 Part 2
  • 2020: female lead spin-off film
  • 2021: Spider-Man vs The Amazing Spider-Man starring Toby Maguire and Andrew Garfield

… People just love splitting movies into two now.

There was also mention about possibly returning to Spider-Man 4, bringing back Toby Maguire and Kirsten Dunst, and convince Sam Raimi to write and direct.

On the Marvel side, Spider-Man would appear in Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War. There would also be a new solo reboot produced by Sony and released in 2017 with a sequel in 2019. Dylan O'Brien (The Maze Runner) would be the option for Peter, and it would start in high school. Sony would have a say in things and Marvel would co-finance the films so they can use Spider-Man in Cap 3 and Infinity War. Then Sony wants TV show licenses back.

The whole things is a clusterf*ck. And yea, this is probably fake. Please be fake. You can see the whole thing here
