THQ to ditch kid games thanks to Saints Row: The Third’s success

On the heels of total meltdown, THQ has finally announced some good news: Saints Row: The Third has shipped 3.8 million copies. Unfortunately, the success of the game has lead to THQ's decision to shift away from kids games.

Company president and CEO, Brian Farrell, announced today that as part of a company-wide realignment, THQ will be focusing solely on core titles and digital distribution, or simply, where their success is.

“THQ will be a more streamlined organization focused only on our strongest franchises,” said Farrell in the company's press release. “The success of Saints Row: The Third is an example of what our revised strategy and focus can achieve."

Farrell expects Saints Row: The Third to ship between five and six million copies in its lifetime, while the DLC is expected to be the most downloaded in the company's history.

So what "core" titles are left for THQ? The focus will primarily go towards UFC Undisputed 3 and Darksiders II, as well as Company of Heroes, inSANE, Saints Row, and Warhammer 40,000.

The CEO was blunt in saying,"THQ’s goal is to optimize its portfolio for the current generation of consoles and to establish new franchises on the next generation of game devices." He later told reporters that their future business plans will be unveiled on February 2, during their next conference call.

Lets be honest, THQ has a lot of talent, but they clearly haven't utilized its full potential, aside from Saints Row: The Third. Though this new business plan may disappoint some whose series' are going down the drain, but looking at the big picture, this allows the company to release enormous, quality titles that will sell as well as the most recent Saints Row game.
