Three more Prometheus films planned before linking to Alien

I guess we will be waiting for a long while...

We knew that Prometheus tied in to the Alien universe, but how it did wasn't entirely clear. Sure, we saw a Xenomorph in the film, but things were hazy at best. As far as we know, production for the Prometheus sequel is underway and it will be have actors reprising their roles, as well as ask a ton of questions about the film's universe — but it won't be linking the Alien franchise to the Prometheus franchise.

Prometheus never really focused on the Xenomorph, but more on the beings that created the world and the creation of the Alien itself. In an interview with German site FilmFutter, director Ridley Scott revealed the purpose of Prometheus and how long we will have to wait before the two franchises link into one another.

According to Scott,“the whole point” of Prometheus was “to explain the how and why of the creation of the Alien itself. I always thought of the Alien as kind of a piece of bacterial warfare. I always thought that that original ship, which I call the Croissant, was a battleship, holding these biomechanoid creatures that were all about destruction.”

While getting an answer to what the film was about is great, how long until we see the Alien and Prometheus tie-in? In the very least, it will be six years before we that happen.

“It won’t be in the next one,” said the British film-maker. “It will be in the one after this one or maybe even a fourth film before we get back into the Alien franchise.”

Prometheus 2 is set to release before Alien 5 (directed by Neill Blomkamp) and Alien 5 won't likely make any tie-ins to the Prometheus films. The whole thing sounds entirely too confusing, but long story short: there will be two or three more films in the Prometheus franchise before the series links into the Alien franchise.
