Paramount is following in the footsteps of Disney, adopting the company's Star Wars strategy with its own for Transformers franchise. Like Disney and its Star Wars films, Paramount plans to release three more Transformers movies. Paramount will release the movies annually with a new one each year for the next three years. Granted, Disney may have a much longer road map, but the same ambitious vision is there.
A new Transformers movie is expected in 2017, 2018 and 2019. The first, "Transformers 5," will arrive in theaters on June 23, 2017 — the same date already set by Warner Bros. for Wonder Woman, so good luck with that. "Transformers 6" is set for June 8, 2018, pitting it against another Warner Bros. film, Godzilla 2. And finally, "Transformers 7" is scheduled for June 28, 2019.
According to Hasbro Chairman, President and CEO Brian Goldner, Michael Bay — who directored the first four movies in the franchise — will return for Transformers 5. As will Mark Wahlberg, who appeared in the most recent installment, Transformers: Age of Extinction. Back in January, Bay expressed his desire to direct the fifth installment in Paramount's blockbuster franchise based on the Hasbro toy line. The film franchise has grossed a combined $3.7 billion worldwide.
While exact details remain a mystery, Goldner also revealed at the New York Toy Fair that "Transformers 6" will tell a "never before heard" story about the fan-favorite character Bumblebee.
