For those of you looking for some retro gaming on PSN, next week you’ll find some new PC Engine Archive releases by both Hudson and Konami. Originally released, these three titles, Neutopia II, Salamander, and Blazing Lazers are from the 16-bit glory days on NEC’s TurboGrafx-16 platform in the United States.
Neutopia 2
This Legend of Zelda clone, released in 1991, is the sequel to Neutopia. Making an appearance on Nintendo’s Virtual Console, the Hudson Soft classic was to be continued in Neutopia III, but was never made.
Salamander
A spin-off of Konami’s Gradius series, Salamander was retitled as Life Force in North America and introduced a simplified power-up system, two-player cooperative gameplay and horizontal and vertical scrolling stages. In other words, it’s the great grandfather of the modern day shmup.
Blazing Lazers
The game most renown for pushing the TurboGrafx to its limits, the player takes control of a Gunhead Star Fighter through nine vertically-scrolling stages. The game was originally released in 1989 by Hudson Soft and Compile.
