During the EVO 2014 Championship this weekend, NetherRealm Studios revealed Thunder God Raiden as a playable character in Mortal Kombat X.
NetherRealm released a gameplay video alongside the announcement, highlighting Raiden's various fighting techniques: Thunder God Raiden which focus on flashy combos and electricity; Displacer Raiden which focus on teleportation; and Storm Lord Raiden which is focused around traps. Of course, some of Raiden's moves, like the classic flying tackle, are shared between all three styles.
With the addition of Raiden, we now have seven confirmed characters: Cassie Cage, D'Vorah, Ferra/Torr, Kotal Kahn (the guy in the Raiden video), Scorpion, and Sub-Zero. The latter two were featured in the Mortal Kombat X reveal trailer.
Mortal Kombat creator Ed Boone was the man who introduced Raiden (as if anyone would do the honors), but didn't go into any detail regarding the new game's story or plot. Mortal Kombat X is due out on PS4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, and PC in 2015.
