Time of Defiance Closing Down After 9 Years Online

After 9 years online, Time of Defiance will be shutting down forever on the July 28, 2010 in preparation for Nice Technology’s new title, Picaroon, due for release this winter.

Time of Defiance is a massively multi-player real-time strategy game that has been playable in one form or another since the summer of 2001. With just medium warships, a coloniser, three buildings and a hand-crafted map, the three founding members of staff fought for an entire afternoon and forgot to get any work done. Time of Defiance was born.

Time of Defiance has been free-to-play for some time now and has remained operating for those players who still love the game. Whilst this wouldn’t normally be an issue, networking changes are about to be made that will disable it permanently.

Nice Technology are organising a last set of games for those who wish for a last shot at blowing up each other’s empires! See www.nicelycrafted.com for details.

These changes that are being made are to pave the way for Nice Technology’s brand-new sea-based MMORTS called Picaroon. Currently in its closed alpha test, it’ll move into beta in September for release this winter. Anyone interested in taking part in the alpha or beta testing programs or just keeping up with Picaroon’s development can do so via www.picaroonthegame.com.
