Titanfall 2 Technical Test feedback bringing major gameplay changes

Your criticism of the Tech Test was heard

It seems that the technical test for Titanfall 2 will actually yield some massive overhauls for the game. Feedback from the first technical test has shown that the game just isn’t as fun as the original. The lukewarm feedback could prove worrisome for this franchise, as Electronic Arts promised big things from the sequel to the technically thrilling, but ultimately shallow Titanfall.

The biggest complaints on Titanfall 2 were drop times for Titans, overall level design, and controlling pilots, all of which Respawn will be trying to fix.

Respawn addressed the feedback in a blog post. The first point the developers tackled was pilot mobility.

The reason it was changed from the first installment was because they felt the game was too fast for some players, resulting in an inordinate amount of flanking and being shot from behind. These changes resulted in players losing momentum mid jump or whilst wall running. Air speed and wall-running speed will apparently be fixed, as they were merely side effects of gameplay tweaks rather than the tweaks themselves.

When it comes to the Titans, in the original game players could call in their mech after a certain amount of time had passed, regardless of skill. Your ability to take down pilots or capture hardpoints did play into how fast you got your Titan, but it meant that even the least skilled player was guaranteed a chance to hop in one too.

In the tech test for Titanfall 2, filling your Titan meter is solely skill based, so players were either calling in fewer Titans or none at all. Respawn, however, will be changing it back to the way it was in the first game. This adjustment will be paired with two other tweaks Titan gameplay. The dash meter will refill faster and the amount of damage weapons deal to Titans will be reduced.

Overall, in the final version of the game, you should be able to call in Titans quicker and fight with them longer.

Making changes to maps, which received plenty of criticism in the tech test, would be the hardest feat of all.

Respawn won’t be tweaking the maps, however,  they have promised that second tech test will include a more traditional Titanfall map, and that there are simply more varied maps this time around. So fans shouldn’t be too worried about this aspect of the game.

The second weekend of Titanfall 2’s tech test is set to begin on August 26th and end the 29th, so it won’t be long before we discover whether their claim about the new map, Fowardbase Kodai, is true or not. Some of the other changes will also be available, but some will have to wait until the game launches on October 28th.
