Today’s Call of Duty Xbox LIVE Ultimate Game sale is hardly a sale at all

I'm beginning to think Microsoft doesn't understand how to handle sales. Day four of the Xbox LIVE Ultimate Game Sale sees a slew of Call of Duty titles discounted. Though I'm hard-pressed to call it a "sale." It's more like an adjustment to where these games should cost — and even then it's overpriced.

The list of CoD titles dates all the way back to Call of Duty 2, a game that released in 2005. The standard price for this Game on Demand is a whopping $19.99. The new discounted offering is $9.99. Even that's steep for this game. Seriously, a seven year old game still commanding that type of price? Especially when we've had several new iterations since then. Heck, Black Ops 2 is just $40 more at its original price.

The history of Call of Duty games can be purchased anywhere from 17% to 67% off, though the overpriced standard price hardly makes the sale noticeable. Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, the most recent CoD title, is probably your best value at $49.99, a $10 discount from its original price. Anyway, if you feel like splurging on some out-of-date first-person shooters, below are today's sales.

Ultimate Game Sale Offers for today Standard Price Discount Price Savings % Off
Call of Duty: World at War $19.99 $9.99 $10.00 50%
Call of Duty: Black Ops $49.99 $19.99 $30.00 60%
Call of Duty: Black Ops II $59.99 $49.99 $10.00 17%

Call of Duty 3 $19.99 $9.99 $10.00 50%
Modern Warfare $19.99 $9.99 $10.00 50%
Modern Warfare 2 $29.99 $9.99 $20.00 67%
Modern Warfare 3 $59.99 $29.99 $30.00 50%

Previously announced one-day sales include Halo, Assassin's Creed, and Resident Evil. Don't worry, if you missed those there are still a few quality titles available through March 4.
