Bethesda is one of the most renowned game studios in the industry today. They’ve developed some of the most influential RPGs with Fallout and The Elder Scrolls and they’ve helped publish great story driven experiences meshed with high-quality gameplay like Wolfenstein, Doom, Prey, and The Evil Within.
They’re known for their critically acclaimed titles but also for taking their sweet time on the titles they develop in-house. Sure, they publish some great games to tide us over but some of the juiciest experiences come directly from Bethesda Game Studios and they take a long time to cook up. However, it sounds like the team is hard at work in getting two games out the door according to studio director and executive producer Todd Howard.
In a new interview, Todd Howard noted that they’re deep in development on a new game and have also entered pre-production on another unannounced title which will adopt a much needed new engine. We have no idea what exactly either game is but we have two solid guesses.
The one that is likely deep in development is Bethesda’s heavily rumored open world sci-fi title Starfield. No one really knows what it is other than the fact it’s some new IP that they’ve been working on for an incredibly long time. The other title that’s in pre-production is likely the obvious: The Elder Scrolls VI. It’ll adopt the new engine and help create a less buggy and more fluid foundation for their highly anticipated RPG which likely won’t arrive for several more years at least.
There are currently 300 people working on both of these titles and if they’re entering pre-production on another title, one can hope that this means that they’re wrapping up the other title and getting ready to shift the team onto the new game. Seeing how well it worked for Fallout 4, we will likely see the new game get announced at E3 and released before the end of 2018.
