THR is reporting that Tom Hardy (The Dark Knight Rises, Inception) has dropped out of Warner Bros.' comic book movie Suicide Squad.
Based on DC Comics characters, the David Ayer-directed film follows a group of Batman villains recruited by the government to perform dangerous black ops missions. Hardy was going to play Rick Flag, the leader of the group. The other actors in the film are Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Jai Courtney as Boomerang, Jared Leto as The Joker, Will Smith as Deadshot, and Cara Delevingne as Enchantress.
The reason Hardy left the film is supposedly due to scheduling. He's currently shooting The Revenant and he is also starring in Mad Max: Fury Road, which opens on May 15.
Warner Bros. has reportedly already made an offer to Jake Gyllenhaal to replace Hardy, but there's no word on whether he will accept or not. He already worked with Ayer on End of Watch.
