Tomb Raider executive Darrell Gallagher has quit Square Enix

Head of Tomb Raider development Darrell Gallagher has left Square Enix after over a decade at the company.

In addition to Tomb Raider, Mr. Gallagher also headed up development on all western games, which is all games outside of Japan. Games the like of Just Cause 3, Life is Strange and of course Rise of the Tomb Raider all saw Gallagher's fingersprints on their development. The CEO of Square Enix Phil Rogers spoke about the new transition for the company in a blog post earlier today

Today Darrell Gallagher announced that he is moving on from Square Enix at the end of this year. Darrell became head of Crystal Dynamics back in 2009, led that studio to reboot the Tomb Raider franchise, and for the last 3 years he has led our western studios.  I want to thank him for his tremendous effort and contribution to Square Enix, along with the amazing entertainment he has helped create.  I am sad to see him go but respect his decision and we should all celebrate the sheer blood, sweat and tears he has put into our company over the last 10 years! We are excited for him and his family on their next chapter.  We wish them the best of luck in the future.”

Ron Rosenberg and Scott Amos, both long time members of Square Enix, have replaced Gallagher and have been reportedly functioning in an acting capacity for the last several months. Rise of the Tomb Raider launched last month on Xbox One and is a timed exclusive for one year until it releases on PS4. Gallagher's supervision on both Life is Strange and Just Cause 3 has also earned both games several accolades, including multiple nominations at The Game Awards for Life is Strange.
