Tons of concept art for cancelled Darth Maul Star Wars game surfaces online

This is actually heartbreaking.

Nearly years ago, GameInformer got wind of a Star Wars game with Darth Maul as the main character. They spoke with the developers over at Redfly Studios and learned that the project would be a more mature Star Wars game set after The Phantom Menace. Maul's lower half would be built of robot-like limbs and parts since Obi-Wan Kenobi sliced the sith lord in half at the end of The Phantom Menace.

The plot of the game was fairly mysterious but Redfly wanted to see Maul go after other sith lords. George Lucas cancelled around the time of Disney's acquisition of the Star Wars IP, but Redfly doesn't think Lucas did it because it was a bad game. It's assumed it was scrapped because Lucas had to cancel most (if not all) of the Star Wars things that were in development. Members of Redfly are still very adamant about getting this game made, and supposedly they pitched the game to EA and Disney but the two companies were uninterested in letting anyone else make a Star Wars game.

Some new concept art has been released online today (possibly in hopes of getting people excited again), and it looks absolutely incredible. Below (and above you can see what the key art for the game would've looked like) you'll find concept art showing characters in the game, menu design, and even some pitches for how gameplay would work!

Above you can see how the main menu would've looked. The droid you see is one of Maul's companions it can be seen in The Phantom Menace when Maul is hunting the Jedi on Tatooine, it's also featured in the game as a way to identify threats. Below you will see a piece of concept art that shows what gameplay would've looked like. The droid identifies some potential threats, they engage, and the other companion is able to use some special moves to eliminate the foes.
