In what is a shocking and sad announcement to make, director Tony Scott died in what appears to be a suicide on Sunday when he jumped off the Vincent Thomas Bridge in San Pedro, California. The 68-year-old director's body was recovered from the water, and the time of death was placed at about 12:30 p.m., according to a Los Angeles County coroner official.
In a statement from the coroner's office, a passerby saw Scott jump from the bridge and called 911. They declined to comment on or confirm a report that they found a suicide noted in Scott's car parked on the bridge and later in his office.
Some of Tony Scott's best films include Deja Vu, Man on Fire, Enemy of the State, Crimson Tide, Beverly Hills Cop II, The Fan, and the iconic Top Gun.
Tony Scott's publicist, including older brother Ridley Scott, said that "The family asks for privacy during this time." The movie world is shaken up, with multiple actors and directors, as well as fans, taking to Twitter to mourne this tragic event. Our thoughts go out to the Scott family to help them through their mourning.
