Torchlight 2 announced

Runic Games has officially announced a sequel to their sleeper hack-n-slash hit, Torchlight, that will be released next spring.

The biggest change coming to the Diablo-esque game is the inclusion of online co-op. Players will be able to connect through a local area network, or over the Internet, and use a free peer-to-peer matchmaking service to meet new players of a similar level and interest.

Those who are active members of the modding community will be happy to know that Torchlight II will release with an updated version of TorchEd, the Torchlight editor. Other key features include customizable characters, new animal companions, new overworld areas with weather cycles and randomly generated events and a retirement system that allows players to "retire" their high level characters and bestow special benefits onto newly creates ones.

Torchlight II will be available as a digital download on the PC, although Runic Games has stated that a Mac version will also be released at a later date.
